„AMMPL Innovation Award 2005“ for DaimlerChrysler AG
Berlin/Frankfurt, 7.11.2005 The „AMMPL Innovation Award 2005“ has been awarded to DaimlerChrysler AG, Stuttgart at the 40th „AMMPL Symposium Purchasing and Logistics“ in Berlin (7.11. - 9.11. 2005). Leading up to the award, the Stuttgart company had prevailed in the 2nd elimination round over competitors German Center for Aviation and Space, Festo, Océ Printing Systems as well as T-Mobile.
Since 1986, the Association Material Management, Purchasing and Logistics (AMMPL) has been rewarding future-oriented concepts in purchasing and logistics which have been realized by business enterprises from industry and trade as well as service providers in Germany. A condition is that the concept must have had a positive effect for the company and proven to be useful for market partners in daily practice. The intention is to demonstrate that the sensible application of material management tools have decisively contributed to the success of a company.
International Procurement Services (IPS), the purchasing organization for non-production materials and services, is one of four sections of the DaimlerChrysler procurement organization Global Procurement and Supply (GP&S). GP&S is one of the largest OEM procurement organizations in the world with purchasing responsibilities for all production and non-production materials within DaimlerChrysler. GP&S is organized on a global scale with activities all over the world. With an annual purchasing volume of about 15 billion Euro, IPS is responsible for approx. 15% of the annual purchasing volume of GP&S.
„We have consistently forged ahead with the regional and global integration of purchasing volumes to create added value for DaimlerChrysler and also to tap into new potential for our suppliers. The AMMPL Award for IPS confirms the success of our global purchasing strategy, which is aimed at shaping the world’s most effective supplier network“, said Thomas W. Sidlik, member of the DaimlerChrysler Board of Management responsible for global procurement and supply.
Dr. Heinrich Reidelbach, Vice President and head of IPS: „The IPS strategy is based on global standardization and bundling with the aim of significantly improving the purchasing result without putting lopsided strain on suppliers. In order to continue to advance this positive trend, we have implemented new and innovative processes, for example, a uniform and transparent supplier evaluation or the selective qualification of our staff.“
AMMPL Chairman of the Board Dr. Jürgen Marquard: „The merger of the complex organizations of Daimler und Chrysler, the harmonization of processes and tools and. last but not least, the dealings with cultural differences have convinced the AMMPL jury. The increase in effectiveness and efficiency can be proven.“ He added that, on principle, the implementation of the concept should be possible for organizations of a lesser size, as well.
