In this way, suppliers not only acquire a seal of approval for their catalog, which represents visible proof of quality, but in addition they also receive support through selective marketing measures by BMEnet.

Initial situation

A wide variety of different technical solutions and formats act as additional obstacles in the use of electronic product catalogs. The development, establishment and application standards in eCommerce clearly make things a lot easier towards simplifying processes and increasing productivity.
For that reason, the BMEcat format was developed with the objective of standardizing and thus simplifying the exchange of product data catalogs between suppliers and procurement organizations. BMEcat is a widely used international exchange standard for electronic product catalog and the leading product in German speaking countries.

Terms of reference in daily routine

The use of eProcurement systems makes sense only if the purchasing department is able to integrate a sufficient number of high quality electronic catalogs in its system without incurring high expenditures to do so. Purchasing departments are searching intensively for suppliers with eCommerce capabilities and able to submit high quality electronic catalogs.
Further to that, there are continuing problems when it comes to importing catalogs into the target system, because either the electronic catalogs made available by suppliers or the interface of the importing system are not 100% compatible with the BMEcat specification.

Catalog certification as a solution

BMEnet GmbH offers the opportunity to certify catalogs that have been created in the BMEcat format. Customers taking advantage of the certification are those suppliers who desire to obtain a seal of quality for their catalogs. This allows them to furnish proof to their catalog users (customers, operators of procurement portals, market places, electronic procurement systems and clearing centers, etc.), that their catalog meets the BMEcat standards.

In addition, an efficient search tool is made available to purchasing departments with the presentation of certified catalogs in the BME portal and online publication of certified catalogs, thus providing a target group specific marketing and sales platform to suppliers.
