Together with the European Innovation Council (EIC), the BME prepared an ePitching session on the 30th of April, which brought together hospital buyers and start-ups from the healthcare sector.

This year BME entered into a cooperation with the European Innovation Council (EIC), via its subsidiary BMEnet GmbH. The EIC has a network of more than 5,000 innovative start-ups and medium-sized companies from all over Europe. The EIC unites the most important EU elements for promoting innovation, ranging from innovative technology research to market-oriented project funding and risk financing tools.

The coronavirus poses new challenges for processes and healthcare services in hospitals. The EIC, in cooperation with the BME and other partners, had therefore organised an ePitch on the 30th of April 2020, which brought together hospital buyers and start-ups from the healthcare sector.

50 buyers from 15 European member states submitted their needs to the innovative start-ups. 30 selected start-ups will assist buyers in providing medical supplies (e.g. protective clothing, medicine, test kits, respiratory machines) and innovative technologies (remote solutions, artificial intelligence for data analysis and forecasting, etc.). During the ePitching Session, the EIC selected the most suitable companies to present themselves in short presentations. The BME specialist group "purchasing in hospitals" supported the identification of needs.

"The cooperation between EIC and BME is intended to promote an understanding of how selected start-ups can contribute to ensuring security of supply in hospitals, making processes and structures more efficient and facilitating the daily work of purchasers," emphasises Olaf Holzgrefe, Head of International Business and Affairs at BME.
